Dental Implants

A diagram of how dental implants work. Dental Implants are a metal device made of titanium that is designed to replace missing teeth. Our dentists, Dr. Bierman, Dr. Ma and Dr. Summerhays place this device surgically into the jawbone replacing your missing tooth.

Dental implants look and feel like your natural tooth. With time, they fuse through a process called osseointegration to the jawbone providing a strong base for replacement teeth, bridges, or even securing dentures.

Patients have reported that the secure fit is more comfortable than alternatives, and much more comfortable than having nothing to secure dentures to. Ask us at San Diego Dental Studio if you are a good Dental Implant candidate. We need to ensure that you have healthy gums and bone to support the implant, both of which we can help you achieve.

Reasons our Patients inquire about Dental Implants

•  To restore the look and feel of a real tooth
•  To maintain healthy bone levels, missing teeth cause the bone to recess
•  Help stabilize dentures giving you a much more comfortable feel

What is the Dental Implant Procedure?

•  Preparation of the Implant Site: We prepare the site by opening the gum tissue to expose the bone area. Sometimes we may recommend a bone graft if there is insufficient bone structure. With healthy bone, we use a dental drill to prepare the bone to receive the implant.

•  Placing the Implant: After placing the dental implant into the bone, the tissue is sutured. We will examine the site for healing three to six months post surgery, allowing osseointegration to occur, which is the bonding of the bone to the titanium implant.

•  Post Surgery: When the gum tissue is ready, the post is ready to support the new porcelain crown. This crown will have the look and feel of your natural tooth, helping you feel as if the tooth was never missing. This post is permanent and strong.

At San Diego Dental Studio, we will help you determine whether dental implants will be a good tooth replacement option for you. For more information, or to schedule a consultation to discuss dental implant options, call us today at (858) 457-4100.
