What Causes Bad Breath?
|
As much as people would like to deny it, nearly everyone has bad breath at one time or another. The fact that we spend billions on mints, candies, gums, rinses, mouthwashes and sprays proves that fact! Some of the most common causes of bad breath and some solutions that can help reduce or eliminate the causes of bad breath, include:

Dry Mouth: You just woke up and because of reduced saliva flow your mouth is dry causing early morning bad breath. The solution? Drink some water first thing, and brush your teeth as you start your day.

Certain Foods: Onions, garlic, alcoholic beverages, coffee, spicy food cause bad breath. The solution: brushing, flossing and rinsing should help.

Smoking: Smoking causes bad breath. The solution? Quit for your overall health!

Dehydration: Dehyrdration can cause an issue called xerostomia. The solution here is drinking plenty of water.

Medications: Many medications also cause xerostomia. Again, drinking sufficient water throughout the day is the key solution.

Skipping brushing or flossing: Less than diligent oral hygiene that allows food particles and bacteria to build up on your teeth and gums often causes bad breath. The solution? Improve your brushing and flossing techniques and brush and floss after every meal.

Tooth decay and gum disease: Decay and gum disease are also common causes of bad breath. The solution - see your dentist!

Systemic Conditions: Some conditions such as diabetes, cancer, and lung disease can cause bad breath. See your doctor or dentist for an accurate diagnosis. |
